Graphic Organisers
- Graphic organisers can be used for many different reasons in a variety of situations. They are great for providing a scaffold for higher level thinking. Often it is easier to expand and explore ideas if you write them down and can see what direction you are heading in. These graphic organisers are a select few that have been chosen as they link with Tony Ryan's thinker's keys and would work well alongside them.
1. The first graphic organiser that works exceptionally well with Tony Ryan’s thinker’s keys is a Venn diagram. This graphic organiser can be used to place an object or idea on the outer circles and find the common factors and place them in the middle where the circles overlap. This would be great to use with the thinker’s key 12: the commonality.
For older children a more complex model could be used as shown on the left.

2. These are other great graphic organisers to use. In the middle you place the main idea or concept then build off these on the outer circles. This diagram allows deeper thinking about ideas and provides the space to follow up these ideas in more detail. This would work really well with the thinker’s key 2: the what if. On the left is a model that has the same idea it is just presented in an more interesting way.
